Turning your basement into a sports-themed wonderland is an excellent idea to add to the overall appeal of your home and can be much fun as well! There's no better place in the house for the gang to gather to share good times and catch-up on all of the best sporting events. Here are some ideas for decorating a sports themed basement that is easy and simple, as well as fun!
For many people, this is a no-brainer, but in some families, there are two or even three different teams, players or sports that are the favorites. In this case, the compromise would be a great way to give everyone a way to worship their team in their way. Each wall could be done to represent different groups or sport, and don't think this can't be complementary and end up looking fantastic; there's always a way of tying everything in together!
Virtually any image can be enlarged and drawn, and then hand-painted onto a wall. Based on the amount of space you have to work with, you can choose from a logo, a football, helmet, goalposts or even as far as painting an entire wall to resemble a football field.
For a baseball theme, "pennants" could be painted directly onto walls along with a baseball diamond, a logo or balls, and catcher's mitts. If there are avid golfers in the house, the entire basement could be painted to resemble the greens, complete with blue skies and "fluffy" white clouds. There are a variety of sponges, tools, and techniques to use in creating faux finishes and illusions such as clouds and grass with just paint. Don't be afraid to experiment since anything can be re-done or painted over again and again!
Curtains in your team's colors or fabrics decorated with the team logo can be hung on windows and over doorways in lots of festive, creative ways. They can even use as a sort of "wallpaper" to decorate entire walls. Fabric on the walls also helps basements with the poor acoustics that most of them have, not to mention helping to retain more heat in the winter.
If you really can't afford to replace the flooring, consider plain-colored, outdoor-type carpeting with contrasting throw rugs in team colors. Alternatively, use throw rugs over the existing carpet. Moreover, colorful or creatively shaped pillows can lend both comfort and interest to your sports themed basement as well.
Throw a basement decorating party during a sporting event; provided that everyone is willing to work and not just watch the game of course, and all can be involved in choosing the theme or colors and designs. Extra pairs of hands are always needed, and you are only limited by your imagination when it comes to decorating a sports themed basement.
