Here it is, more than midway through May. It's hard to believe that Mothers Day has come and gone and now Fathers Day is a few weeks away in mid-June. Of course, in between these family holidays is one of the best barbecue holidays of the year ” the long Memorial Day weekend. The perfect time to usher at the beginning of summer fun.
When you the weather is nice many of us will take the opportunity to make the most of it by getting outdoors to enjoy it. With the price of gasoline and the cost of staying in a hotel, many people are choosing to hang out at home for the long weekend. It's a great time to enjoy some downtime with friends and family without having to run around everywhere. They won't be any packing to do or any traffic to contend. And it will probably be pretty peaceful around town too.
If you're one of the people spending the time at home, why not get out the great, classic outdoor games like volleyball, horseshoes, and badminton. Or hop in the swimming pool for some water volleyball or enjoy floating around in the pool with a cold drink. Even if you don't have a pool there's probably a nice one in town you can go to, or you can buy one of the new inflatable pools, and you'll have it up and ready to swim in the same day.
And whats a Memorial Day weekend without a big barbecue? Maybe you can cook up some hot dogs with sauerkraut, big juicy hamburgers, and cheeseburgers, or grilled teriyaki tuna steaks. Then you can't forget some ears of sweet corn-on-the-cob plus slices of mouth-watering fresh watermelon to serve on the side.
It will all be more enjoyable if you line up your supplies before the weekend arrives. If you do your shopping early, you'll avoid the crowds or having to run out for things when you should be home enjoying a much-deserved weekend of relaxation. And don't forget to check to make sure you've got plenty of fuel in your barbecue.
