Depending on the way your kitchen is laid out, you might have a big space above there that looks well empty! You’ll need to fill that space with something to give your kitchen a warm, homey look.
However, decorating the space over your cabinets needs to be done because you don’t want to overdo it otherwise it will seem too cluttered. You also want to be sure you use decorations that are up to date and don’t go with something old and outdated like plastic ivy draping over the edge of the cabinets.
When it comes to space over the cabinets, there are two things you can do. One is to place the items you want to display directly on the top of the committee which will create a three-dimensional display, or you could hang things on the wall like old signs or plates in fancy hangers much as you would hang on the lower portions of the walls.
No matter what you choose to do, you want to keep the size of the space in mind so that you spread your display out evenly to cover the entire area. The thing is though that you don’t want things to too methodically placed because kitchen decor looks better when its put in groupings.
One of the things about decorating over your kitchen cabinets just like any other kind of painting is that you want to group items of different shapes sizes colors and textures to make the groupings interesting.
Some of the things you might consider displaying above your kitchen cabinets include:
- A collection of baskets
- Vintage bowls
- Antique or exciting plates or tureen covers on hangers on the wall
- A group of photographs and similar frames
- A group of cookie jars
When learning how to decorate above kitchen cabinets, one of the first things you will notice is that a lot of the offices are recessed, and you will have to build them up so that items are level with the top of the cabinet. I usually do this with old books, or you can use blocks of wood or whatever you have to build it up to the right height.
Don’t also forget that you will eventually have to get this stuff down and clean it periodically so keep this in mind when placing your items – you may want to limit the amount of clutter you have up there to keep the cleaning to a minimum.
