Reflections On A Milestone

I found my 700th cache last week.  Ript2Shrds-Satan's Crack was the cache I chose to be as such, as I spent the day caching with some great people during our Trilogy of Terror adventure.  While I'll save the official story for our editor-in-chief, I will say what was the consensus among the group that day- it was one of the best caches- EVER!  The cache hunt was filled with a grueling, physically challenging hike, one heck of a vertical climb, and a descent once at the top.  The climb was rewarded with a picturesque view, and something I would probably have never seen, had it not been for geocaching.  It was a most memorable cache, as any milestone should be.

I ponder one question, though.  Why was it anticlimactic for me?

I'd wanted to achieve the personal milestone at this event from the moment we first planned the day out.  I believe I was lingering around 670-675 finds at the time of the planning, so I knew I had some work to do.  Unfortunately, time was not on my side.  We were about a month and a half out, and my caching time was very minimal.  To boot, I was on vacation over the week of the 4th, and did not intend on finding any caches in South Carolina.  (Happenstance allowed me to find a couple).  Over the days and weeks leading up to the event, I methodically planned which areas I'd hit up.  I knew I'd be making a couple trips to the Lehigh Valley, which provided me a chance to hunt caches along a few of the wonderful rail trails along the way.  I've more or less cached out my home area, and am leaving what few "easy" caches are out there for a rainy day, when I'm in a pickle and need a quick find to fill a calendar day.  There are several alternate routes for me to take between Northwest New Jersey, where I primarily work, and my home in Northeast PA.  This enabled me to pick a few extra ones up between home and work, without having to go out of my way, particularly after work, when I'd surely be pressed for time.

I knew 698, 699 and 700 would be found during the Trilogy of Terror, and I had 695, 696 and 697 planned out, as I needed them to fill out calendar days.  So here I am, with about a week to go, and a handful of caches needed to be found in a very short period of time.  So I did what any right-minded cacher would do: I hit a guardrail series.  Yeah, I said it.  A series of caches, identical in container type, size and hiding spot.  I must admit, it made for a dull afternoon.  Not to mention, it rained, on and off, the entire time.  I did me some five-star caching.  Unfortunately, it came over a period of five caches.   Not my proudest moment in geocaching, but I did it for the greater good.

Perhaps that is why I sat in my living room last Sunday evening, licking my wounds from our awesome adventure, and when thinking about #700, just shrugging my shoulders and saying "whatever".  It's just another number.  The real accomplishment that afternoon was the friendships which were made, those which were renewed, and the camaraderie among a dozen or so people, from different walks of life, coming together one afternoon to share in an common interest.

You are so right - It's what we do while making the milestones that really counts. I bet that was such a fun day and I am waiting "patiently" for Kevin's post about it..... Hint, hint....

I know what you mean Smith, I've not long past my 500th and planned to go back to my birth county of Wiltshire, UK to collect it. Yes I took in a couple of easier ones on the journay there.

Congrats there Smithie. I wish I could have been along for the fun. You are right that it is the friendships made and places seen that make all of the difference. Looking forward to meeting you sometime in the future. Nice job.

My Husband divorce me for no reason, this is how i get him back today because i really love him so much,I'm very excited sharing this amazing testimony, My name is Becky Miller, from USA a banker by Profession. I'm happily married to a lovely and caring husband ,with three kids. A very big problem occurred in my family seven months ago, between me and my husband .so terrible that he took the case to court for a divorce.he said that he never wanted to stay with me again, and that he didn't love me anymore. So he packed out of the house and made me and my children passed through severe pain. I tried all my possible means to get him back, after much begging, but all to no avail.and he confirmed it that he has made his decision, and he never wanted to see me again. So on one evening,as i was coming back from work,i met an old friend of mine who asked of my husband .So i explained every thing to him,so he told me that the only way i can get my husband back,is to visit a spell caster, because it has really worked for him too.So i never believed in spell, but i had no other choice, than to follow his advice. Then he gave me the email address of the spell caster whom he visited.{bravespellcaster@gmail.com}. So the next morning,i sent a mail to the address he gave to me,and the spell caster assured me that i will get my husband back the next day. What an amazing statement!! I never believed,so he spoke with me,and told me everything that i need to do. Then the next morning, So surprisingly, my husband who didn't call me for the past 9 months, gave me a call to inform me that he was coming back.So Amazing!! So that was how he came back that same day, with lots of love and joy,and he apologized for his mistake, and for the pain he caused me and my children. Then from that day,our relationship was now stronger than how it were before,by the help of a spell caster. So, i will advice you out there to kindly visit the same website { http://lovespelldrbrave.weebly.com/. } if you have any problem contact Dr Brave ,{ bravespellcaster@gmail.com }, thanks you Dr Brave, i will always be testifying about your good work, and for any questions call me on +1(575) 779-6197.
