Where The Hell's My Money?!?!

No, I'm not jamming to Mojo Nixon, I'm looking at my online banking  "Fun Money" account. I don't have much "fun money" so I watch it like a hawk! Today, I log in like do do every Saturday morning, username, password and BAM! I'M DOWN $30.00 freaking dollars! Where the Hell's my money? The whats, who's and whens went through my mind as my agonizingly slow computer produced the perpetrator. Oh man, I was ready for an ass ripping, I was. Who has access to this account? MY FUN MONEY CACHE!

Finally, the thief reared it's ugly head and there on line six in the summary it was plain as day, Groundspeak. ARGhhhhhh

DUDE, I would have appreciated a heads up! You know, maybe an email saying;

"Hey Kevin, can you believe a year has past since you last re-upped your Premium Membership? We hope you've enjoyed the value of it's benefits. I just want to give you a heads up that we will be debiting your profile account $30.00USD on February 1, 2013 (that's like 10 days away). If you need a short amount of time to get it together, just drop us an email and make another arrangement. Same goes for getting off of the automatic debit renewal however, it really is the most convenient way to pay and not lose a single adventure!"
Maybe even signed with a real name of one of the Lackey's! Instead of just Groundspeak....

 I guess that might be asking too much? Instead, I got an email (after the withdrawal) saying that they successfully took the money, here's when it expires again, Cheers, Groundspeak. I felt a chill go up my spine. Not the warm and fuzzy feeling that you might get from even a Walmart greeter for Pete's sake. And they just took my fun money!

This is an excellent example which clearly shows, that even in a game of millions, with a very successful and lucrative venture like Groudspeak, there is still some room for improvement in customer service. I think those Lackey's better fly me out there to Seattle, Washington on the very next first class flight so I can empower then with some people skills training. They need to understand the people principal workshops and then they can take me caching (and a nice dinner wouldn't hurt, lol).

I bitch and moan but in the end, it's one of the best $30.00 investments that I'll make in 2013. I just think there's a better way to do business and us Geocachers are no one to mess around with. Especially when your messing with one's own treasure (aka my Fun Money Cache). Groundspeak successfully "found it" in my account, they took the $30.00, they traded their services, which I believe is trading up if not even. I just wish they would have left a nicer and more personal log. Anything is better than TFTC (thanks for the CA$H)

You might be able to go into your account and update your payment details. I do mine by credit card and I think I get an email a couple days ahead of time asking me if I want to renew.

I still think its well worth the money but I agree, when you're not expecting it, it's a shock to see $ 30.00 missing from your account. I wouldn't like that either.

Yikes! Disappearing money is scary... must have been a relief (even if a frustrating one) to discover the culprit...

I pay manually so I haven't had this experience. Pro Tip: cache-advance.com sells yearly membership gift cards for $28.50. They frequently offer free shipping, which means a whopping $1.50 off your membership. Follow them on G+ to find the free shipping days (normally on Fridays), and save yourself that $1.50 - its a cup of coffee, or a new cache container.

Thanks for the reminder. I need to change my recurring payment to pay when I want. I too agree it is worth it, but I want to pay it when I want, and when I have the money. What if you didn't remember and it put your account in overdraw and you got socked for it? Not a good thing. Thanks again for the reminder.

Eek! that is why I NEVER select those automatic recurring withdraw options for things I have to renew ;-) ... but indeed. Money well spent ;-)

I just had to go in and see if I had mine renewing automatically. I don't! I'm up in March though, so I'll need to renew...glad you brought this to our attention! Sorry, you are $30 down on the fun money (but what is more fun that geocaching anyway ;)

Jamie :)

My renewal is set in the middle of January, and I got an email 7 days before they debited me... maybe check your spam, or your geocaching.com settings?
